We transformed bacteria through metabolism and photogenetic engineering, so that they can secrete antibacterial and antitumor drugs or other components in a photoregulated manner. This solution allows the synthetic drug to diffuse and deliver to the surrounding medium in an amount regulated by the light dose. Using the focused beam, the synthesis and delivery sites of drugs can be defined freely.
Microencapsulated drugs are encapsulated in hydrogels to form viable therapeutic materials. Hydrogel provides a supportive environment for the survival of bacterial populations, and it is possible to minimize the safety of free release of bacteria into the body.
