CRY2 Activated Mammalian System

CRY2 is a FAD containing photoreceptor from Arabidopsis. Arabidopsis cryptochrome 2 (CRY2) can simultaneously carry out light dependent CRY2-CRY2 homooligomerization and CRY2-CIB1 heterodimerization, both of which have been widely used to optically control intracellular processes. Basic Principle of CRY2 Activated Mammalian System

In Arabidopsis, CIB1 (basic helix loop helix of cryptochrome interaction) was identified to interact with CRY2 in a blue light specific manner to promote flower initiation. This light induced heterodimerization of CRY2-CIB1 is mapped to the PHR domain of CRY2 and then used for the optical control of protein-protein interaction.CRY2-CIB1 system has been successfully used for intracellular signal light control, lipid metabolism, gene expression and organelle transport, and has been found to function robustly in a variety of organisms without the need for exogenous cofactors.
