Adenoviruses belong to the adenovirus family. They contain double stranded DNA and have no membrane around them. Due to the toxicity and the pre-existing neutralizing antibody in most populations, its use as a viral vector in gene therapy is limited. Therefore, canine adenovirus was developed based on CAV-2 vector strain, which has a low level of serum positive in the population.
