Arabidopsis thaliana Optogenetics

Arabidopsis thaliana Optogenetics

Arabidopsis thaliana is a small flowering plant native to Eurasia and Africa. Compared with animal model organisms, Arabidopsis is easy to care for. It grows rapidly and produces many very small seeds. It has a small genome of about 114.5 MB. Because a lot of work is focused on this plant, its genetic characteristics are very good. As a member of Brassicaceae, it is associated with more important cultivated varieties such as cabbage, mustard and radish. Exposure of Arabidopsis to Agrobacterium tumefaciens provides an effective transformation vector, making Arabidopsis a multifunctional model organism used in biological laboratory. Arabidopsis is widely used in plant science, genetics and evolution, which helps us to further understand the important aspects of germination and plant growth in commercial crops. In recent years, Arabidopsis thaliana has even become a model organism to study the biochemical and molecular processes of human diseases.

Photogenetic tools for controlling gene expression have many advantages over classical chemical induction systems, and overcome the inherent limitations of chemical inducers, such as solubility, diffusion and cytotoxicity. They provide unparalleled temporal and spatial resolution and allow quantitative and noninvasive control of gene expression.

Creative BioMart provides a series of protocols for Arabidopsis synthetic light induction system and related system construction services.

Light Induction Arabidopsis thaliana Systems at Creative BioMart

When the plant protoplast is irradiated by red light (660 nm), the synthetic toggle switch system is in the ON state and can return to the OFF state by subsequent far red light (760 nm).

A photogenetic system based on Arabidopsis to control gene expression in plants inactive under white light and can be activated by monochromatic red light.

The system is used to target and control gene expression in Arabidopsis cells. The system responds to the green spectrum with minimum activity of plant photoreceptors.
